Boo! Happy Halloween everyone. Doesn't it always feel weird that November 1st is the day after Halloween? I feel like it always comes up so quickly. For the start of a new month/holiday season, I got a serious haircut yesterday - we're talking 4-5 inches. I think the saying goes short hair don't care? I'm home for the weekend to watch my brother run the marathon and get an East Coast fall weekend in and it has been so cozy and fun. So excited to see my friends tonight and tomorrow. I have a great cheeseburger costume to show off, which I'm pretty excited about. Anyways... November is always about food and cozy sweaters and dark nail colors and crisp air but this year I'm also feeling bold lip colors and fur and knee high boots and craft beer to go with those! Happy trick or treating!

Designer to Know: Katy Skelton
I've been dying to go to High Point, NC since hearing it is the MECCA of home décor. I also have a slight obsession with all things southern. Garden & Gun magazine recently did a feature on southern interior design trends and featured American designer Katy Skelton. Skelton, who hails from the great state of Texas, came out with a line of 50's inspired furniture, serving ware and beautiful Lucite, marble and brass serving trays. The marble and brass serving tray, called the Admiral Tray, is to DIE FOR and the perfect Thanksgiving hostess gift. I'm sort of obsessed. The beautiful credenza below also comes in white.Skelton's eponymous line is a hit and I can't wait to see what she comes up with in the future. I also love that it is (semi) affordable, made in America and absolutely stunning.

The Chop
About once a year I get the urge to get a major haircut. It usually happens around January (new beginnings and all) but it seems to have come early this year. My hair is super long right now and there are still blonde remnants from my ombre situation so I'm dying to do a major chop. I'm talking like 5 inches. I have an appointment for when I'm back East next week and have begun to pull inspiration images. I can't wait for my new look (insert hand to hair emoji here).

It's All About Mini!
I love mini things. I drive a MINI cooper and I love travel-sized anything so it makes sense that I'd be really into mini bags. I am also extremely partial to cross-body bags for nights out because, let's face it, who can keep track of their clutch?? My personal favorites right now are the Celine Nano (classic, the most expensive one on this list) and the rose pink Mansur Gavriel mini bucket bag (swoon).

2 Year Anniversary of MM!
My parents told me that post-grad life flies by but this is ridiculous! I cannot believe my little blog turns 2 this week! I have had SO much fun writing and curating this blog and it has been such a treat to interact with my readers both in the comments section and in person. It means the WORLD to me when people tell me that they are loyal Metropolitan Musings readers - you have no idea!
Two years ago this week, I was working in NYC in finance and trying to figure out my post-college life. Today, I am happily settled in Santa Monica, CA working for a company I adore and working towards a professional designation degree at FIDM. So many things have changed but a lot is exactly the same. I still have the support of my amazing family/friends/boyfriend/co-workers and I still love putting content out for you all to enjoy. I have been crazy busy recently but also incredibly happy. That said, I know the volume of my posts has decreased but I am working on the quality of the posts so hopefully that makes up for it. Please continue to read and support and comment because without you guys I wouldn't have kept up the posting for two years and counting! Here's to many more (and to hoping to Veuve fairy visits you all tonight - cheers)!

Shopbop Friends and Family Sale
As many of you know, shopbop.com is my favorite website. Like ever. I love when they have sales - especially when I can share with all of you! Take 25% off with code FAMILY25. Happy shopping : )
Campaigning
I love the look of high gloss, lacquer campaign dressers, desks and side tables. While some can be very pricey, Etsy, is a good place to search for less expensive versions. There are also some great ikea hacks floating around there that show you how to make your own by painting and tweaking inexpensive ikea pieces. Need to try that sometime! I love that they come in a bunch of different colors and the hardware always makes them look polished and refined.

Best Fall Shoes
My sister, Tory, can not stop raving about her Vince pony hair slip-on shoes that she's been wearing almost every day. She keeps talking about how they are the most comfortable shoes she owns so naturally I had to get a pair. Done. They are the easiest way to transition from flip-flops to boots without compromising style. Similarly, my friend, Cristine, has the Steve Madden versions that are just as cute and a fraction of the price. Trust me, you need them.

5 Things To Do This Weekend
Hi everyone! Hope you've all had a fabulous week. My sister, Lulu, is en route to Santa Monica right now and Tory and I are so excited to have her. I have been absolutely loving California but I definitely miss home (parents, pups, siblings, fall leaves, etc.). We have a full weekend planned but below are some of the highlights.
1. Pumpkin Patch - Saturday
We're hunting for celebrities as much as we're hunting for pumpkins : )
2. Joan's on Third - Brunch Saturday
3. Hike Temescal - gorgeous hike in SM/PP area with amazing views of the water (and not too hard!)
4. Strand House Manhattan Beach - Brunch Sunday
5. Beach! (yes, East Coast friends, beach)
I'm sure there will be lots of shopping and eating mixed in along the way but so excited to see my baby sister and have a great weekend. P.S. I painted my bedroom navy... looks AMAZING. Pics to follow!

All Hail Hale Navy
I really want to paint one of my bedroom walls a dark color to add some dark tones to my bedroom and have been searching for the perfect shade. I envision a dark navy/charcoal to contrast with my white headboard and sheets and I'm on the hunt for the perfect brass sconces. I stumbled upon Benjamin Moore's "Hale Navy" while pinning this morning (duh) and have to say, I'm sold. It looks like it's not too dark as to appear black in a dark room yet not too blue. Check it out below. Once completed, I'll do a full apartment tour on MM - can't wait! Have a great weekend everyone!

Fall Bag Wishlist
Every fall, I get the urge to paint my nails fun fall colors, get cozy in sweaters (or ponchos for this year) and I also have a bit of a problem where I have to have a fall bag. Regardless of whether or not I have a wonderful bag from the year before, there is something about fall that makes me want something new and fresh. Blame it on new beginnings with the school year and trees shedding their leaves -all I know is that my bank account takes a big hit right around October. What's that you say? It's October 1st? Yeah, I know.... This year's addition is going to be a tough decision. The pink Chloe bag below is called the Clare bag and if that's not a sign that I need it I don't know what is! I think I may actually end up going with the Mansur Gavriel bucket bag that has been selling out everywhere orrrr the Saint Laurent chain clutch in blue. I've had my eye on that one for a while. The gray goyard tote with my monogram (not pictured below) woulddd be a perfect school bag. Decisions decisions.
