June!!!! Can't believe it. I'm spending all of June in LA (fingers crossed for minimal June Gloom) and then Maine for the 4th. Dreaming of the ocean, fresh farmer's market picks, off the shoulder tops, ocean-swept hair, big sun hats and lots of shades of blue. Anyone else??

LA Fashion
Happy humpday everyone! I'm heading to LA tonight to visit my sister, Tory, and can't wait! She has dinner reservations planned, a wine tour in Santa Barbara and lots of shopping, hiking and beach-going on the agenda. I'm so excited to see her but a little unsure of the fashion vibe I want. Do I want festival chic? Should I bring a little NY to LA?? Decisions decisions...

Beach Cars and Golf Carts
I recently read an article in the New York Times about the rise in popularity of "beach cars" (tiny cars that you drive small distances like to the beach or town that are mostly "open air cars"). I grew up going to Boca Grande, Florida for Christmas and Spring Break and the island is dominated by golf carts and beach cars. We had a fire engine red golf cart that I loved cruising around in. The island has designated golf cart/bike paths all over the island so you never had to worry about being on the street with cars. The NYT article described people paying top dollar for rare beach cars that come complete with wicker seats and a hefty price tag. I love the look of them! Maybe I'm biased from my Boca Grande days but the tinier and more colorful the car (especially in pinks and corals!) the cuter, in my opinion! What do you guys think? I'd get some pretty odd stares if I tried to cruise around in one in NYC.

Quote of the Day
Happy Friday peeps! I hope you all have fabulous weekend plans. I planned a girls weekend for my sister, Lulu, and I. We're going to shop and getting our nails done Saturday and going to a fun dinner and then brunch and a movie on Sunday (and perhaps a spin class...). I usually go home for a day on the weekends during the summer to escape the city's heat but I am so excited to stay put and enjoy the warm weather for a change.

Cocktail of the Week: Southside
While I love my Moscow Mules, there is no drink that says summer quite like a vodka Southside. Similar in taste to the mojito, the Southside is the quintessential country club drink of choice and is gaining popularity at bars. You can prepare it with white rum or vodka but I prefer vodka (the boys in my family prefer the rum).
*Makes 1 (I find that having a pitcher made is always more fun...)
2 oz vodka
1/2 oz triple sec (a little more if you like yours sweeter)
2 oz lime juice
Ice (I love lots of ice in mine- shake in a shaker to make it extra cold)
Mint leaves (make sure to pick into small pieces and muddle at the bottom of your glass to really get a taste of the mint)
1 - 2 oz soda water (depending on how much fizz you want)
Enjoy! This drink always reminds me of hot summer nights at the club.

Summer Reading Part 2
"A Hundred Summers" -Beatriz Williams
I devoured this book in 2 days and loved every minute of it. Switching between 1931 and 1938, the book takes place in high society Manhattan, a fictional beachside town in Rhode Island, Smith College and Dartmouth. For anyone who loved "Elements of Style" or who enjoys love stories set in a more glamorous time, this one is for you. Highly recommended.
"Tigers in Red Weather" -Liza Klaussmann
Set in a similar time period, "Tigers in Red Weather" is the next book on my list. From Amazon, "Nick and her cousin Helena grew up in a world of sun bleached boat docks, tennis whites, and midnight gin parties at Tiger House, the family home on Martha's Vineyard. Jean Cutoffs
Is there anything better than jean shorts in the summer!? Throw them on with a loose tank over a bathing suit for the beach or dress them up with wedges and a blazer. They're so versatile! I still have my favorite pair from Urban Outfitters that I bought about 5 years ago and don't think I'll ever part with them! How do you style yours?? P.S. Who What Wear just did an awesome compilation of the best jean shorts here.
