Los Angeles/Santa Barbara

I landed at LAX late on Wednesday night and after surprisingly heavy traffic for Wednesday at midnight, I couldn't have been more excited to dive into the matouk sheets at my aunt and uncle's house.

Top row: My aunt and uncle's gorgeous family room and dining room - you can't see the herringbone wood floors in the dining room but they were amazing
Bottom left: In my uncles office/library they used an awesome green color with exposed beams and the coolest ski print
Bottom right and middle: LA has awesome home shops
My sister Tory and I woke up early on Thursday and went to brunch at Vida, a local favorite in the Pacific Palisades, and indulged in huevos rancheros and blueberry corn cakes. Lets just say this was not the last of our indulgences. We shopped on Robertson and had lunch at the Ivy, which was yummy but expensive as expected. Reiss was having amazing sales and we really cleaned up there. We stopped into the Johnnie-O store in Santa Monica and got to say hi to everyone and check out their new digs. The new store is so perfect. Thursday evening we stopped by the Beach Club with my uncle Chris and then had the most delicious meal at Giorgio Baldi. I was beyondddd spoiled his trip. After dinner Tory and I met up with one of my favorite people from Cornell, Chris Sheridan, at Shore Bar.

Friday we ate lunch in Venice at an awesome little spot called Gjelina, where we had awesome flat bread with mushrooms, goat cheese and truffle oil as well as kale salads, a buratta, prosciutto and grilled peach number and cappuccinos. We shopped around Venice and then went to Hollywood to peak in some vintage shops and home stores (my fave). After a quick nap, Tory and I ventured to the new Nobu in Malibu. We dressed to the nines (expecting a celeb sighting or two ) and were rewarded by a brief glimpse of Mel Gibson and Brooke Burke-Chavret. The food was also to die for and if you ever go make sure to request to sit outside (pretty impossible but worth it) and make sure you order the yellow tail with jalapeno.

Saturday morning we drove up to Santa Barbara for the most amazing wine tour and stay. We were with an eclectic group and, as with those kinds of things where drinking is involved, made fast friends . It was a perfect day and we stopped at 4 awesome wineries. It was one of those trips that doesn't even seem real in hindsight. We stayed at the most adorable inn that I'm dying to go back to on a more romantic weekend. The Upham is the kind of hotel that puts out cheese, crackers and wine at 4pm and everyone sits out and just enjoys an hour of quiet. We ate way too much in Santa Barbara and shopped around and then drove back to LAX. It was the most amazing weekend and really made me think about moving out to the west coast one day. It's just such a different pace than NY. Granted, everywhere is a different pace than NYC but still. My sister can't wait to move out there in January or June and I wouldn't hateeee to follow her out there :)

That's all for now. I'm having a big group up to the lake this weekend and then Riley is visiting the weekend after so, to be honest, life is good. Why does summer have to end?!

Friday

Happy Friday everyone! This week really dragged on it was hot hot hot in the city. I'm looking forward to relaxing this weekend and, if this heat breaks, may even lay outside.I have to get some frames for some cute Etsy prints I got and have a few more DIY projects planned. More on that next week!

Quote of the Day

Happy Friday peeps! I hope you all have fabulous weekend plans. I planned a girls weekend for my sister, Lulu, and I. We're going to shop and getting our nails done Saturday and going to a fun dinner and then brunch and a movie on Sunday (and perhaps a spin class...). I usually go home for a day on the weekends during the summer to escape the city's heat but I am so excited to stay put and enjoy the warm weather for a change.

Puppy!

My family currently has two dogs, Pixie, a golden retriever who is 3 and George, a havanese, who is 11 or 12 (yes, it seems odd that our white fluffy dog is named George and our big dog is named Pixie. Don't ask...). Ever since we fell in love with Pixie three years ago, we have been begging my mom to get another golden because she is the cutest (even though I don't live at home I still visit all the time!). The breeders are in Greenwich and we always check their website to find out about new litters and news.

On April 1, two of Pixie's sisters each had a litter each and they are ADORABLE. We went on Sunday to go "look" because my mom has been adamant that she doesn't want another dog. We finally wore her down because you literally could not say no to the cuteness of these pups and we brought Pixie and she got to see her mom and sisters and was so excited! That afternoon, after a bit of begging, mom finally said yes to another puppy! So I decided to dedicate a post to our favorite furry friends because who doesn't love to look a puppies on a Tuesday?? Have a great week everyone!

My Life Lately 4.10.13

Hi everyone! These last couple of weeks have flown by and I have been quite the world traveler. I was in Toronto to see Riley play and visit with some of my favorite friends, Lauren and Becka. We went to dinner with a bunch of old Cornell friends, who live in Toronto and had a blast. I had a great Easter brunch at home with the fam and was so proud of myself (and surprised) that I didn't eat gluten all of Lent. I rewarded myself with pancakes and toast and all sorts of breaded goodness (and beer!).

The next weekend I was in Chicago with Lauren visiting some friends from school. I hadn't been to the city in a long time (my parents grew up in a suburb outside of Chicago so have spent lots of time in the burbs) so it was great to re-explore. I got to catch up with my cousin, Jimmy, and his girlfriend over tacos and margs at Big Star and we got our dinner comped at an amazing tapas place (complete with sangria). The weekend was so successful that Lauren and I now joke about moving to the Windy City.

This next weekend I'm in Boston for the little sis's 21st and we're getting dinner at a restaurant in Cambridge called Harvest that is apparently incredible (check out the menu and you'll see what I mean-- any restaurant that has lobster mac and cheese and truffle fries is good for me!) After Boston, I'll finally be home for a while and will enjoy the spring weather that has finalllllly come. Hope everyone has had a good April!

3.20.13

Hi everyone! I haven't done an update in a while because things have been really crazy. I was in Raleigh two weekends ago visting Riley and I even got to have lunch with my good friend, Ryan, from Cornell. You can't tell from the pictures but it was gorgeous out (something I wish I could say about the NY weather...). I even found some gluten free beer at the restaurant we went to so it was a real success! Yay for not breaking my Lent!

The weekend before that I had a bunch of friends in town and we had dinner at an awesome Japanese steakhouse. Later that night I went to the Hark society charity event, which was really fun. I ran into a ton of old friends from high school and had a ball.

I'm off to Raleigh this weekend and then Toronto, Chicago and Boston the next three! I'm going to Toronto to see my college roommate, Lauren, Chicago for a girls weekend and Boston for my sister, Tory's, 21st birthday. Hope everyone is having a great week!

Happy Friday!

Two weekends in a row in NYC... a record for me recently! I have some of my favorite people from Cornell coming in this weekend and then a black tie event on Saturday. I'm even going to try out DryBar, which I've heard rave reviews about. Might even mix in a little hockey viewing...we'll see! : ) Hope everyone has a wonderful weekend! xo

My Life Lately 2.22.13

Hi everyone! Aren't four day weeks the best?? The week flew by, which never happens in the working world. I had the best weekend in San Francisco this past weekend (so much so that I'm considering a move...) and was not happy coming back to the cold. When is the Spring going to be here because I cannot wait any longer! I stayed with my best friend, Jen, and got to see a bunch of old Cornell friends including one of my favorite people in the world, miss Liza Stokes, former Cornell squash teammate!

The weather was incredible all weekend and on Saturday we did what we thought would be a one hour hike. Four hours later, we realized we actually did have a lot to catch up on (and got a good workout in)! The views were beautiful and I was being corny and loving the air and the sun and how "fresh" everything was.

After the hike, we walked around Mill Valley, which was absolutely adorable. The foodie in me was DYING over the Tyler Florence store, all the organic food and the fact that they had almond milk in all their coffee shops (NYC has got to get their shiz together). I wanted to move into the TF store. They had the best stuff!

Saturday night, Jen, Liza and I went to an awesome Asian restaurant called Betelnut. It was so great to have two of my favorite people finally meet and we had an awesome time. I gave up dairy and gluten for lent, hence the "no cheese zone" picture. Easter couldn't come soon enough...

We, unfortunately, didn't get to see Jen's sister Courtney and her husband John (one of my all time favorite couples) because they were in Carmel for the weekend but I did get to see their amazing apartment. I was dying over the slightly masculine feel of it. Jen thought I was a little weird whipping out my iPhone to take photos but how could I resist the cowhide rug and perfect backgammon scene?!

On Sunday we shopped around and went to a boozy brunch at a great place called Circa. Afterwards, we went to the park with awesome views of the bridge and hung out with friends. The weather could not have been better. Sunday evening, Jen and I watched the Beyonce documentary, which was awesome.

I had some amazing food (and drinks!) out there and wasn't killing myself that I had decided to give up my favorite foods for lent (although the no beer was a bit of a struggle...). Jen and I went to this awesome ice cream place where I got to have soft serve with nutella mixed in. YUM! The chocolate strawberries were a nice surprise from Riley for VDay and my coworkers were pretty psyched about them too. Moscow mules were the drink of choice for the weekend. If you haven't had one, make sure to order one next time you're out. The cold copper glasses make them 100 times better so if you're at a place that has them, it's worth it to inquire about what they'll be served in...

Monday night, I had the red eye but was lucky enough not to miss Riley's first NHL game of the season against Montreal. Liza, Jen and I got weird stares when we were the only ones in the bar at 4:30pm asking to switch the the Canes game. The Red Eye was awesome courtesy of my Ambien and work didn't seem so bad. I've never been happier to be in my bed Tuesday night and I had even cleaned my sheets before I left (amazinggggg).

I'm so excited to be home in NYC this weekend for the first time in over a month! Hope everyone had a great week and has a great weekend! xo

Weekend

I'm off to San Francisco this weekend to visit my best friend, Jen, and cannot wait! She moved there in October and I have been perpetually jealous of her west coast life since. Maybe I'm a jaded east coaster/new yorker but the weekend getaways and activities look much more fun! Not to mention the weather... I really struggled packing last night. It's supposed to be between 60 and 70 degrees, which is amazing. I don't think I'm going to go full blown flannel but I'm definitely going with a laid back look a la below. Anyone have any shopping/restaurant suggestions?? Let me know!

 Shorts may be a go
Booties are a must. I packed my Rag and Bone Kinsey black heeled booties
Oversized sweater: check. I packed my moss green men's vneck J. Crew cashmere sweater.
Never got into the boyfriend jean look but these do look so cute with heels. It's all about finding the perfect pair.
How adorable is this striped dress/shearling vest/booties combo?? I die. Want the whole thing...
This looks exactly like my helmut lang blazer..that I happen to be wearing right now...
I packed my new MIH jeans that I'm obsessed with. Can't go wrong with jeans and a basic top!

My Life Lately 1.16.13

I can't believe I haven't done an update since December 27th but it's been crazy busy and I have lots to share! I had a fantastic New Year's Eve in Boca Grande and was happy to have a somewhat low key evening with my family. Of course, the night wouldn't be complete without Tory getting up and performing with the Boca Grande Band. It's becoming somewhat of a tradition...

Billy and I flew back from Florida on New Year's day and I got right back to work on the 2nd. The vacation was much needed and I felt recharged enough to tackle the beginning of the year. My parents and Robby stayed through the week and got to go to the Notre Dame/Alabama game. Needless to say they left, sulking, at half time...

I did a lengthy post of my 2013 resolutions and so far I've been keeping up with a couple of them. My diet has gotten a bit better. Instead of my usual penne a la vodka and chicken tikka masala that I order in on Thursday nights (and Tuesday...), I've been opting for healthier option like Blue Print Cleanse's green drink (which you can now order on Fresh Direct and they sell them at some Whole Foods as individual bottles- amazing right?), wraps or salads from Fuel Grill & Juice Bar, or cooking at home.My working out hasn't been as often as I want but work has been great and busy so I'll cut myself some slack for a week or so. I have been doing more weight training and less cardio so we'll see how that goes.

I've also finally seen Juliet's apartment. One step closer to being a better friend and visiting all of my friends!
I spent a couple nights at home in Greenwich and it was great to spend time catching up with the dogs.

I've had a couple great weekends in the city filled with birthday parties and fun nights out. I got to celebrate Abigail and Caroline's 23rd birthday on two separate nights and we had an awesome dinner at Jo's, which was a sort of Italian/Asian mix with fantastic vegetable dumplings and fun cocktails.

I even (finally) organized my closet and scrubbed clean my whole apartment. I even got 2x2 photos to put in the frames by my bed.
