Cocktail of the Day: Tennessee Honey Storm

I'm not huge into whiskey but JD's honey whiskey is so so good. The "Tennessee Honey Storm" is the perfect summer drink. My uncle Bill introduced us to these amazing cocktails and got us these awesome ice ball molds that make huge ice balls that keep your drink cold all night. We had cocktails over at the finished cottage on John Street (the property that my parents are working on) and had a blast. Be careful because the Honey Storm is so smooth you may be on number 5 before you know it! Not that I know from experience!

Recipe
1.5 ounces Jack Daniel's Tennessee Honey
3 ounces of ginger beer
1 lime wedge
Muddled Mint
Lots of ice

On my way to the cottage - in the woody, of course!

 cheers!

Tory in front of the cottage - the sunset was beautiful!

Gotta have cheese, truffle honey and sushi right??

Blood Orange

I recently picked up the cutest sweater from Gap that is a beautiful orange color and since then have noticed the color everywhere. I can see myself infusing more of this happy hue into my wardrobe come spring. This bathing suit may be next on my list...

Gift Guide 2013 - For Your Favorite Foodie

I always love giving and receiving food as gifts (and wine/champagne for that matter). You can only give so many candles/tea towels/bottles of wine/ornaments as hostess gifts and any of the below are a creative way to say thanks for hosting.

Cocktail of the Week: Porch Swing

Last night my company had its annual fall event at Blue Smoke restaurant in NYC. I love this event because the food is fantastic but I always have to be careful not to drink too many of these suckers. The Porch Swing is one of their signature drinks and it is delish. If you ever make it there, make sure to order the pulled pork, mac and cheese (super rich), cole slaw and a porch swing!

Cocktail of the Week: Moscow Mule

Now that the sun is finally out and it starting to warm up a little bit, I'm in the mood for  a cold drink outside. Of course gin and tonics or glasses of rosé are old favorites but my new favorite drink is the moscow mule. When we were down at Boca Grande this Christmas break at one of our favorite restaurants, the Temptation, we ordered up a round with fried oysters and they were divine. Below is the recipe and don't forget the frosted copper mugs!!

1/2 ounce of fresh lime juice
2 ounces vodka
4 to 6 ounces ginger beer
Some recipes call for simple syrup or a sprig of fresh mint (whether or not you use either of these is up to you but don't forget the fresh  lime garnish!)

Squeeze lime juice into Moscow Mule mug (make sure the mug is frosty... that's the best part!).
Add ice, then pour in the vodka and fill with cold ginger beer (not ginger ale).
Serve with a stirring rod.
It's as easy as that! Have a great weekend everyone! xo

Fall Book Club Party

My friend, Sara, is hosting a book club party at her apartment next week and asked me what I thought she should serve for dinner. It got me thinking about hosting my own book club meeting/party and what I would serve, wear and read.

I absolutely adored this book. Written about New York in the late 30’s, what’s not to love??

 Butternut squash soup recipe here

Fall salad recipe can be found here. I like to make mine with spinach, fig, pecans, wheat berries, chevre, craisins, olive oil and red wine vinegar.

Ginger apple bourbon recipe can be found here.

Bernard Baudry Chinon Les Granges 2011 is a great red and only $19.

My mom buys these at Bartlett Orchards upstate and they are incredible.

Comfy and casual
