Brand to Know: Caroline Constas

I am loving the off the shoulder trend but it's hard to find the exact right fit that doesn't make you look like you are wearing a potato sack. Shopbop started selling the brand Caroline Constas, which features cute gingham and striped off the shoulder tops and dresses and I'm smitten. Below are some favorites. 

Midweek Must-Haves

If you know me, you know I love all things nerdy, especially when it comes to fashion. What's that you say? Cork clogs with socks and jeans isn't a good look? Socks over my ankles isn't "hip"? I wear my pajama pants Erkle style?? Turtlenecks aren't cool??? Trendy sneakers needn't be worn at the office?? Haters be silenced, clogs are back. Turtlenecks are back. Ironic eyeglasses have been back and are still in. 70's style and high-waisted pants are in. Overalls have been trending for two full seasons. It's a dream come true. Below are some of my mid-week must-haves. Side note, those splendid pajama pants are a dream. I bought a pair for Christmas and they are my main squeeze. Size up for optimal comfort. I also just got those clogs... and the striped dress... whoops. 

MDS Stripes

Half of my closet is stripes. This is not an exaggeration. You can take the East Coast girl out of the East Coast... well, you know how it goes. When I found out Mark D Sikes was doing a line, aptly named MDS Stripes, I sort of freaked. The beachy, preppy and fun line features dresses, tops, skirts, short shorts and even made to order maxi skirts in, of course, navy and white stripes. My favorites? Transition Piece: Hats

I used to think of wool hats/fedoras as strictly fall fashion pieces but I love how they are being worn as a transition pieces with summer outfits. Pop one on with a slouchy tee, jean cutoffs and sandals for a perfect end of summer look.

Friday Favorites - Nautical Style

Striped Tees

Just got those Rag + Bone booties and I'm obsessed. Love the sleeveless Vince top in the middle and will probablyyy need to get the Warby Parker sunglasses... Stripes in the Home

I love the look of stripes in the home in any season but the look is particularly fresh and nautical in the summer or in a house by the beach. Add stripes with a cute rug or throw pillow or go all out and paint a wall with stripes! You can't really go wrong with neutral colors. I knew my bedroom was missing something so I got a striped blue and white rug from Dash and Albert and, ta da!, it looked instantly more finished.

I love everything about this outfit worn by Katie Lee in the kitchen. Although you can't see her shoes, I would imagine her wearing white casual sneakers like Supergas for a casual look or canvas wedges or nude pumps for fancier look.

The New Classics

The fashion world's take on "classics" changes slightly every year. This year classics include leather, interesting shapes and cuts, booties in black or brown and peter pan collars. Neutrals will always be classic along with trench coats, ballet flats and cardigans. Some new rules: 

1. Don't be afraid to mix black and navy

2. Monochromatic can be very chic

3. Black on black always works

4. Leather accents don't have to be edgy

7. Gold jewelry can spruce up almost any outfit

8. Add a pop of color to an otherwise neutral outfit

9. Oversized sweaters don't have to be "grungy"

10. A topknot or sleek pony can pull together a look

11. Invest in classic pieces you'll have forever
